A long weekend away in one of my favourite city’s. Off to Amsterdam for the weekend and it’s been far too long. I can’t wait to hit those city streets. Eat a FEBO, maybe even smoke a joint (although I doubt that will happen). Just walking out of central station and seeing Damrak ahead of me will make my heart sing. So many happy memories associated with that place ❤️
January 2023
The great unwashed
There have been many side effects of the Covid pandemic. Some more severe and impactful than others. The effect on the Main Street is evident in every major town with plenty of shuttered shop fronts.
One less severe, but equally annoying, effect is the impact it’s had on travel. Pre pandemic BA had exclusive use of Heathrow Terminal 5 but with the global downturn in travel twinned with the slow down of the economy many American Airlines now use T5. And that’s where the great unwashed come in. At the risk of sounding like an utter snob the number of uncouth loud Americans in the T5 lounges is offensive. They sit stuffing their faces loudly communicating with some poor unfortunate over FaceTime for the entire lounge to hear.
Get a booth. No one cares!!!
So it’s taken a full 2 weeks but I finally made it into the gym for a spin class this morning. New year new me blah blah blah. Not feeling so shabby after the workout. Let’s see how that pans out tomorrow morning. I’ll be heading to the gym three times a week from now until April to try and get into shape for ski week in Austria (if there’s any snow left that is).
One week in
So I’m officially one week into the 2023 detox and it’s been a breeze. Not sure if that’s because I’m just getting old and the party vibe is waning, or I’m conditioned to do it every year. Either way it’s all good. I do look like a piece of shit though. Will probably take a month to clear out all the toxins. Managed to lose a kilo and a half in the week. Might even start getting back into the gym at this rate 🤣🤣
Into the battle we go!
Another year ends and with it comes the joy of my annual 3month detox. I have to admit that I actually quite enjoy this time of year. Must be a sign of getting older. It’s my hibernation mode I guess. Anyway I had a pretty hectic December with Ireland and many nights out. New Year’s Eve was the same old traditional bout of craziness. Okay I realise that I’m just 2 days into 90 but I have not had one craving. I think I can safely say I’ve got this. Plus the joy of detox means that once it ends I’m going skiing. Yay!
