Preparation for the big Camino hike has begun. I’m not one for last minute packing. Hell no! So I got all my stuff together on Wednesday and laid it out in preparation to make sure nothing is missed.

It’s quite the selection.

8 tee shirts

2 pairs of trousers

1 pair of walking shorts

1 fleece

2 long sleeved tops

8 pairs of undies

3 pairs of walking socks

6 pairs of normal socks

Pyjamas

1 hiking towel

Sun cream

Toiletries

Camelbak hydration backpack

BOSE quiet comfort headphones

Kimble e-reader

So now that I have the selection of clothes ready to go I have to get them all shoe horned into this 25ltr backpack.

I’m not going to lie it was a bit of a squeeze but in the end I got all of it in.

All that’s left to do is to check in for the flights and then we’re off on the 9th. Buen Camino 🤣

A new kings insignia enters the game.

Jolly good stuff. Let’s see how he does. Hopefully a better entrance than the new chancellor who has managed to royally fuck up the entire economy in one mini budget. Gawd only knows what he’s going to manage when he gets to the full sized one (if he makes it that is)!

Deluded to the very end

 

Boris Johnson’s last speech as prime minister had him argue: “I am like one of those booster rockets that has fulfilled its function…. splashing down invisibly in some remote and obscure corner of the Pacific.”

Johnson may see himself as an Apollo spaceship, but he’s more like the boastful, patrician and ultimately useless firework from Oscar Wilde’s fairytale “The Remarkable Rocket”, a parable about patrician pomposity, arrogance and misplaced self-confidence which substitutes for talent.

Wilde’s worthless rocket is a near-perfect fit for Johnson, especially when it declares: “I like hearing myself talk. It is one of my greatest pleasures. I often have long conversations all by myself and I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I’m saying.”
